WHAT IS YOUR WHY?

What is your purpose in life? Do you know it?

Why do you do what you do in your personal life?

Why do you do what you do in your professional life?

Do you feel fulfilled?

Do you feel like you are just meandering through life? Or do you feel like your life has purpose and meaning?

These are all important questions to ask yourself!

Everyone has a purpose, cause or belief that is a source of our passion and inspiration. Do you know yours?

Happiness or Fulfilment – what is the difference?

  • Happiness is temporary, it is fulfilment that really lasts.
  • Fulfilment is a right not a privilege.

Really STOP and take note of the above statements! How often do you ask yourself whether you feel fulfilled? Whether that is in your personal life or your business life!

Happiness comes from what we do. Fulfilment comes from why we do it. Simon Sinek is known for “Start With Why”. He talks about the Golden Circle. WHAT, HOW and WHY.

Most business owners and entrepreneurs can explain WHAT they do and HOW they do it? But can they explain WHY they do it?

WHAT we do is – based on the neocortex part of the brain, it is rational, analytical thought and language

HOW we do it –  based on the limbic brain

WHY we do it – is also based on the limbic brain – but this is purely on feelings and what is often referred to as gut instinct. It is ultimately based on emotion, NOT logic.

Ultimately, whatever your WHY is needs to bring fulfilment.

From my personal experience I know that for me a sense of fulfilment and happiness is required. I need a purpose, a reason!

Sometimes you do not even realise how unfulfilled you are until you ask yourself the above questions. I certainly had not realised how unhappy I was until I found my true self. Now I know that sounds a cliché but in some ways my relationship ending and my career changing may have actually been the making of me. I had to go through a journey of self-reflection and ultimately put myself back together again. But what is important, is I feel like a better version of myself. I have worked on my self-care and found my purpose. Without my WHY that journey would have been near on impossible.

So what is my WHY?

My WHY is freedom and independence. The reason I love cars and driving so much as it provides me freedom and independence. The reason why I like being self sufficient is because I like being independent. The reason why I have my own business and cannot imagine a life of employment is because it provides a sense of freedom and independence. My life revolves around my WHY.

WHY did I start SLJ Consultancy because I want to give business owners and entrepreneurs their freedom back! It always comes back to my WHY.

Running a business can be an incredibly lonely place and I know from previous experience it can feel like anything but free. When you are worrying about how the bills are going to be paid? Wondering where is your next customer coming from? Are you struggling to recruit the right staff? Or even knowing that technology is failing your business, but you just don’t know how to change it?

I help business owners and entrepreneurs in dealing with those challenges. I help businesses become more efficient and effective. That means more profitable and that of course means more freedom for the business owner! Again keeps coming back to my WHY!

Knowing your WHY is your motivation to keep going and to face those challenges head on!

Why do you get out of bed in the morning? People could say money is their why? But why do you want the money? For the lifestyle? For freedom?

Sometimes it is easy to lose our WHY, or in reality not even know it in the first place.
